The group was joined this week by Leila Ilkhan, the Corporate and Trusts Partnerships Manager of Pilgrims Hospices. Leila has been with Pilgrims for over 6 years, and is part of the fundraising team. Government funding only raises 20% of the approximate £15m annual budget, so engaging actively with organisations across East Kent is vital to allow the Hospice to continue their good work.
Pilgrims Hospices has three locations – Canterbury (the first hospice), Ashford and Margate. In addition to providing beds and palliative care to patients referred by hospital or GP that are nearing the end of their life, they also visit the homes of those who do not wish to stay in a hospice. The services provided include symptom management, physio, counselling and wellbeing.
Patient families are also supported through this difficult time, and counselling is offered up to 2 years after the passing of a loved one. Additionally, Pilgrims run walk & talk sessions, and a bereavement café (Stepping Stones).
