In this week’s presentation Anthony Groves of D C Groves and Son informed the group of the work of the Tenterden branch of Lions Club International, of which is is the chair. Anthony joined in 2015 and became fundraising chair within 6 months.
Lions Club was founded in 1917 and has grown to be the largest service organisation in the world with 1.4 million members in 200+ countries. The Tenterden branch formed in 1957 and is a registered charity, supporting many local groups, schools, etc.
They often work alongside other organisations to deliver their services. Anthony described the work they carried out with Tenterden Town Council to erect a beacon on the recreation ground in 2018, the Pistons & Paws show that recently took place, and the annual Santa sleigh that travels around the local area. Just some of many times the Lions Club have benefitted the local community.
