Wealden Business Group was this week joined (rejoined?) by former chair, Richard Harvey. Richard is a journalist & public relations professional with an impressive list of clients who two years ago was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. He came along to provide some insight into the condition and, in the run up to World Parkinson’s Awareness Day, to promote a local charity that offers support to those who need it.
As Richard explained, Parkinson’s is caused by a lack of the chemical dopamine in the brain, and frequently results in tremors, mobility issues, muscle weakness and even inappropriate behaviour. Richard was keen to point out his lack of tremors and very appropriate behaviour, though! Over 145,000 people in the UK suffer from it.
Richard highlighted the services of the Parkinson’s Centre of Integrated Therapy in Canterbury, and is keen for it to be supported in any way possible. You can find out more about Richard’s personal experience and about Parkinson’s in his presentation.
