Susie returned to WBG this morning following her very well received presentation last month. Today she filled in some of her background, telling us about some significant life events that led to her becoming a therapist.
She started her working career at Haymarket publishing, working on various titles, culminating in the re-launch of Motorsport magazine, which evokes fond memories of Ferraris, Cobras and Aston Martins. A subsequent successful foray into network sales through Cabouchon costume jewellery came to an abrupt end when the company collapsed, leading to a stint as one of the first female taxi drivers in Maidstone. Presumably driving a little slower than the sports cars earlier in her career!
Susie then spent some time at SetPay, which was at the forefront of online payment gateways, now utilised by virtually all websites that sell goods or services online. Back in the 1990s, though, it was very unusual, particularly for SMEs.
Around then, a major life event happened when Susie met her husband, culminating in a proposal on the prow of a boat in the South China Sea (how romantic!). He was, and still is, a hairdresser, and the now run a salon in Cranbrook called CL2 alongside Susie’s therapy business.
He journey into therapy is based somewhat on her own difficult childhood (her parents divorced when she was 3) and a fair amount of adult trauma. The catalyst to deciding to train professionally happened when Susie was helping her daughter through a period of depression, and the GP recognised her aptitude for therapy. 10 years or so later, she is now qualified in a number of therapies, giving her a toolkit to help with a wide range of traumas.
