Ayurveda is an ancient form of medicine that originated in India around 1500 BC. As with many traditional approaches to wellbeing it concentrates on the five elements, or doshas – earth, water, fire, air and ether which are believed to govern our bodily functions.
In Ayurveda people are assumed to have innate characteristics, their Prakriti, and more transient features, their Tridosha. The Tridosha can be altered by herbal medicine, exercise, fasting, and many more approaches. Illness is believed to be an imbalance between Prakriti and Tridosha.
Through a relatively straightforward questionnaire, group members were able to score themselves across the three elements of the Tridosha – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. You can find out more about Ayurvedic Medicine by reading the transcript of Bill’s presentation.
