Whilst many people look after their physical wellbeing pretty well by eating healthily and taking exercise, far fewer take the same care with their mental wellbeing. In her presentation to the WBG, Bronwyn Rich (herself a WBG member) took us through a checklist that covers the many areas that contribute to mental health:
- Physical Self Care
- Psychological Self Care
- Spiritual Self Care
- Emotional Self Care
- Workplace Self Care
An exercise in identifying sources of help for deficiencies in these areas got the group thinking hard about where they could turn if they had such a need.
Describing herself as an expert by experience, Bronwyn was open about the mental health issues she has faced and manages. She believes this gives her a unique insight when she delivers training on suicide prevention for children, young people, and adults, and on stress management, toxic stress reduction.
