CARM (Caring Altogether on Romney Marsh) has been chosen to be WBG’s charity of the year by incoming chair Anthony Groves. Recognising that many people suffer debilitating loneliness, perhaps through the loss of a partner, or through physical disability limiting mobility, they work to reduce social isolation through a network of volunteers carrying out home visits, and organised social events.
Marketing manager Victoria Carmichael joined the weekly meeting to update the group on the challenges they face, such as losing KCC funding and the shutting down of the Amazon Smile service. She also expanded on the power of reminiscence, both talking and musical, in encouraging people to engage more readily.
Victoria also suggested ways that anyone interested in doing so can help. Options include volunteering, fundraising and spreading the word.
