Justin Nelson – The Evolution of Nelsons Legal

10/01/2025 By wealden

Weds 8th January 2025

The recent shut down of Nelson Mclean has had a significant impact on Nelsons Legal as Justin Nelson carried out a significant amount of work for them, including Conveyancing, Probate, Short commercial leases, Commercial documentation, Company/business acquisitions and disposals where no property conveyancing is involved, Minor documentation (e.g. promissory notes, joint ownership agreements, change of name deeds, etc) and Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

As a result Justin felt it was opportune to explain their current range of services to WBG. in his own words….

Following the demise of Nelson McLean, conveyancing is not an option – that includes commercial leases over 7 years long, as they need to be registered at the Land Registry

In addition, I cannot directly handle probate work, but I can help executors obtain grants of probate, etc, and advise them on winding up estates. This really only is viable for the simpler estates: if an estate has complexities, it is better to refer the potential client to a “full service form”, especially if conveyancing of property will be required to wind up the estate.

I can still handle the other work I did –

  • Short commercial leases
  • Commercial documentation
  • Company/business acquisitions and disposals
  • Minor documentation
  • Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney

On the topic of Wills, Justin recommends that you should make one if you do not already have one, if your circumstances have changed significantly since the last time you or if you have not reviewed yours in over 10 years. He can also help with Lasting Powers of Attorney, although in most cases they do not require legal expertise, merely the completion of a long form.
