Weds 10th July 2024
The WBG charity for 2024/25, as chosen by chair Colman Carpenter, is Take-off, a mental health and wellbeing charity that aims to offer peer support to those struggling with certain aspects of life. We were delighted to be joined this morning by two of the directors of Take-off, Ellie and Wayne.
Ellie explained to the group that Take-off is a small and local charity that uses a peer-support model to help with mental health and wellbeing. This generally takes the form of group sessions facilitated by a peer worker who has personal experience of the mental health condition.
For those who are not confident enough to engage in these sessions, Take-off also organise activities designed to engage people in something relevant to them. This might take the form of cooking, gardening, IT, walking and other activities, all of which encourage people to get out and meet others.
Take-off receives some funding from the NHS/government, but the range of support they provide requires a lot more to be raised, particularly as they look to pay the support givers if that’s what they wish. WBG is excited and proud to help with their fund-raising efforts for this year.
