Business lessons from martial arts

David Dicara explained how a martial art can influence business thinking at our breakfast networking meeting this morning. Drawing on his experience of Kendo he used the basic grip to relate how holding a shinai (bamboo sword) correctly is a metaphor for a business enterprise.

The smallest two fingers on the left hand take the weight of the shinai while the other three digits support them. Analogous to the lowest paid production workers supported by the middle managers. When the right hand joins the left on the handle this is the senior manager or director controlling the direction and timing of the cut or block.

David works as a professional toastmaster and MC, and he can be contacted on 07764 897739 or email: david@toastmasterdaviddicara.co.uk
